Tbilisi Transport Company has announced a tender for the design and construction of a new tram line, marking a significant step toward restoring tram services in the city. The announcement was made by Mayor Kakha Kaladze during a municipal government meeting. The tender covers the preparation of design and budgetary documentation, as well as the construction and installation works for a line connecting Didi Dighomi and Didube.

“Everyone will remember our pre-election pledge to bring the tram back to Tbilisi. Now, Tbilisi Transport Company has announced a tender for the design and construction of a tram line using the Design-Build method,” said Kakha Kaladze.

The new line will run from the intersection of Didi Dighomi’s 3rd and 4th microdistricts to the Didube metro station, primarily along Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue, covering a total length of 7.5 kilometers with 11 stops. The project also includes the construction of a tram depot capable of servicing 10 to 11 tram sets, featuring administrative and production facilities, covered storage, washing stations, emergency access points, and all essential engineering systems.

Mayor Kaladze emphasized the importance of the project in improving urban mobility, stating that the tram line will connect residents of Didi Dighomi with the metro system, making travel toward the city center faster and more comfortable.

The tender closes at the end of December 2025, and the winning company will have 36 months to complete the project. Mayor Kaladze expressed hope for broad participation, underscoring the city’s commitment to reviving Tbilisi’s tram network.
