Tbilisi Mayor Met With The Regional Director of EBRD

The Mayor of the Capital Kakha Kaladze, together with the Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia, met with the Regional Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Katarina Björling Hansen.

At the meeting held at the Tbilisi City Council, the projects planned with the support of the EBRD in the Capital and the specific terms of the agreements were discussed.

The meeting focused on municipal transport and solid waste management systems upgrade projects.

Kakha Kaladze thanked the EBRD Regional Director for financial assistance in the implementation of various projects in the Capital, including the modernization of the public transport.

As the Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia explained, as a result of the projects implemented with the support of the EBRD, the Capital will receive much higher standard services in the relevant fields.

“The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is an important partner for the Tbilisi Municipality. At the meeting we talked about the current projects, including bus renovation, subway car rehabilitation and metro station renovation projects. We talked about specific dates and also, next year we will introduce additional 18-meter buses, which the bank will help us with. Also, the direction of solid waste is important. We are currently working on a strategy that is also being implemented with the assistance of the EBRD. As a result of this strategy, we will move to a modern separation method, refining waste collection technology and optimizing routes, as a result of which the city will receive much better services”, - Andria Basilaia said.

The Regional Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Katarina Björling Hansen, has promised the City Hall maximum support and active cooperation in the implementation of the future projects.
