"Tbilisi Transport Company", responsible for the operation of municipal transport in the capital city of Tbilisi, submitted its financial report to the Ministry of Finance.
According to the document, last year the company's total income increased by 18% and reached GEL 307 million. However, along with the revenues, the company's expenses also increased, as a result "Tbilisi Transport Company" ended the last year with a loss of GEL 70 million. 2022 was also unprofitable for the company when the loss made up GEL 94 million.
As of the report, the company received a subsidy of GEL 271 million from the budget last year, which was used to upgrade the municipal transport fleet ( purchase of buses).
In 2022, a new system of fare payments for public transport started operating in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, introducing cards enabling unlimited transit for select time periods.
In the new system, passengers can choose between unlimited 90-minute, single-day, one-week cards, as well as options for several month-long cards, and a year-long pass. Season tickets are sold at express branches of Bank of Georgia and at machines in Tbilisi Metro.
