თბილისის მერია

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced on November 15 that a tender has been issued for the purchase of 97 modern, international standard metro wagons as part of the city’s metro wagon renewal project.

The project, which aims to modernize Tbilisi’s metro system, will be co-financed by the Georgian government and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

“The first batch of new wagons is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. The project will span seven years, with the goal of gradually delivering 22 new trains by 2030, including 13 four-carriage units and 9 five-carriage units. The total procurement budget for the project is approximately 200 million euros,” Tbilisi Mayor stated.

The new trains will feature carriages, and the Akhmeteli-Varketili line will be upgraded to five-car trains, enhancing passenger capacity and service quality.

The mayor emphasized the growing demand for metro services, noting that the city plans to purchase an additional 115 wagons to replace older trains as part of the broader renewal effort.
