The Cost Of Operating The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Is Up

Last year, USD 166 million was spent on the operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

According to the annual report of BP, the cost of operating the pipeline increased by 31%. Of which, USD 120 million was operating expenses, USD 46 million was used for capital expenditures. In 2022, these figures were USD 100 million and USD 27 million, respectively.

Since the launch of the 1,768 km BTC pipeline (i.e. from June 2006 to the end of 2023), about 4.2 billion barrels (about 561 million tons) of crude oil has been transported. In 2023, Ceyhan Port received 227 million barrels (about 30.2 million tons) of crude oil, transported by BTC, where oil was loaded on 313 tankers.

The BTC pipeline currently carries mainly ACG crude oil and Shah Deniz condensate from Azerbaijan.

Shareholders of BTC Co. are: bp (30.1%, Great Britain), SOCAR (25.00%, Azerbaijan), MOL (8.90%, Hungary), Equinor (8.71%, Norway), TPAO (6.53%, Turkey), Eni (5.00%, Italy ), TotalEnergies (5.00%, France), ITOCHU (3.40%, Japan), INPEX (2.50%, Japan), ExxonMobil (2.50%, USA) and ONGCVidesh (2.36%, India).
