The Ministry of Finance expects a big profit from the state enterprises for 2023. Deputy Finance Minister Giorgi Kakauridze told BMG about this.
The deputy minister says it is difficult to talk about exact results at this stage, although expectations are positive. Giorgi Kakauridze especially mentions the positive dynamics of Georgian Railway and Georgian Oil and Aas Corporation.
"2022 was good for state-owned enterprises, it was a profitable year for almost all state-owned enterprises. In total, their profit made up to GEL 1 billion. We are interested in corporations that are not financed from the budget, and to some extent their activities should contribute to the economy. When we looked at the dynamics of their activities in 2023, we think they finished previous year with a pretty good profit. It's hard to give exact numbers because we don't have audited accounts. However, we think we'll have good results in that direction. Georgian Railways, the Oil and Gas Corporation, as well as other big enterprises are especially noteworthy.
It is also worth noting that the dividend payment was recorded and this fact has not been observed in the last 10 years. The gas transportation company paid a dividend of 50 million, and this amount is already in the budget," Kakauridze said.
In 2022, state enterprises reached a total profit of GEL 1 billion 356 million.
As of the Ministry of Finance, more than 86% of the net profit comes from the profit obtained from the currency exchange rates.
