The National Food Agency has registered up to 1300 beekeeping farms, which include more than 53 thousand beehives. The agency reports about this.
Through registration of beekeeping farms, beekeepers have the opportunity to benefit from state programs, participate in grant competitions, take advantage of cheap agro-loans and insurance packages. Additionally, they can certify and export bee and bee-derived products.
"The main purpose of implementing identification-registration is the ability to trace manufactured products. Regarding the registration of beekeeping farms, it has been mandatory since January 1, 2023, which facilitates the traceability of products manufactured by beekeepers, consequently increasing competitiveness and export potential," - stated Giorgi Jalagonia, Head of the Animal Registration and Identification Division of the Veterinary Department.
The National Food Agency carries out the registration of beekeeping farms with the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) National Animal Identification and Traceability System (NAITS) project.
