Speaking to reporters in Tkibuli, the Prime Minister of Georgia commented on the critical assessment made by the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili about the refusal of the EU loan of 75 million euros, saying that the President may not have had the relevant information.
Irakli Gharibashvili noted that the Georgian government administration will provide this information to the President on his instructions.
"I think the president does not have enough information. We will provide information about this loan and how the government manages this whole process ...
The president has her own opinion, she may have a different opinion ...
This loan had nothing to do with the construction of Rikoti. Therefore, the president probably does not have the appropriate information, but I will instruct the administration and we will definitely provide her with relevant information," the prime minister said.
Yesterday, the President of Georgia criticized the government's decision on a 75 million euro loan to the European Union.
"The announced refusal to accept an EU loan is a rather incomprehensible step for a large part of the population and me personally. An economic argument about the need to reduce debt fails. No matter what the growth of our economy, even a double-digit number, it still does not cancel the social and economic damage that the coronavirus has caused to our population. The damage was reduced by the loan of the mentioned 75 million euros. It is unclear what causes international debt reduction to become a priority over the crisis of the citizens today. Until the 2-digit economic growth affects the well-being of the population, the logic of refusing assistance is unclear," said Salome Zourabichvili.
According to the President, it sounds paradoxical when the government refuses European aid and on the other hand, the government highlights the importance of Rikoti Road considering that this road is largely implemented through loans from Europe.
"The economic consequences of this step are not only reflected in taking the aid. The main thing here is the reputation of our country and the credibility of the Government's word," - said the President.
