In the first quarter of 2024, the total volume of freight transport in Armenia decreased by 14.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching 3,437.1 thousand tons, according to the Statistical Committee of Armenia.
In March of the current year, 1,261.6 thousand tons of cargo were transported, which is 6.4% higher than the February figure, but 17.2% lower than in March of the previous year, as reported by Armenpress.
Compared to January-March 2023, the volume of railway transport for the same period of the current year decreased by 62.5%. During this period, 287.5 thousand tons of cargo were transported by this mode of transport, of which 109.8 thousand tons were in March. This is 6.6% higher than the February figure of the current year but 59.2% lower than the volume of March of the previous year.
The volume of automobile freight transport decreased by 3.1% in the first quarter of the current year, reaching 2,481.5 thousand tons. Of this volume, 948.1 thousand tons were transported in March. This is 10.5% higher than the February result but 12.1% lower than the March result of the previous year.
The volume of freight transport by road in the first quarter of the current year is 2.8% lower than the figure for the same period in 2023 - 659.2 thousand tons. In March, 200.1 thousand tons of cargo were transported. This is 2.2 times higher than in February of this year and 16.1% higher than in March of the previous year.
