Chairman of Georgia’s National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, Davit Narmania, has confirmed that the agency will take part in reviewing and setting new water tariffs if an official request is submitted. He made this statement to the media during the Energy Expo event.

When asked about the need to revise tariffs in regions where water supply remains problematic, Narmania clarified that residents in such areas are not charged since they do not receive the service.

“Where there is no water, the meter does not rotate, meaning consumers do not receive bills and therefore do not pay anything,” Narmania explained. “However, in areas where the state has already invested hundreds of millions of GEL to improve water supply systems, it is important that the water tariff at least covers operating costs.”

According to Narmania, the current water tariff was set many years ago and has not been reviewed since. “If the United Water Supply Company submits an application to the State Electricity and Water Supply Regulatory Commission in accordance with the established procedure, we will be obliged to consider it and determine the appropriate tariff,” he added.

Earlier, Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze announced in parliament that a reform of the United Water Supply Company is underway, with plans to introduce new tariffs by 2027. He also noted that the company is expected to submit a tariff review application to the regulator next year.
