Tamaz Daushvili, managing partner of Dio declares, that the will of the Georgian nation to join the European family is firm and strong, but there is no clear desire of the government.
The businessman published a Facebook post, in which he talks about the importance of the unity of Georgians on their way to Europe.
Dio's managing partner considers June 20 to be a symbolic date for the Georgian people in support of European integration, and the neutral date (June 16) proposed by the President of Georgia is a futile attempt.
Tamaz Daushvili believes that the Georgian government should put the future of the country above personal sentiments and its members should join this gathering.
"At a critical moment, Georgians are really used to stand together. This is a historically proven fact. The last such major unification took place on April 9, 1989, when, despite political differences, the vast majority of society and political parties stood for Georgia's independence and freedom.
Now is the time to once again unite around the idea of an independent Georgia for a European future and show everyone, that the will of Georgian citizens to join the European family is strong and firm. I am glad to see the signs of this unification, as evidenced by the President's statement, although it is very unfortunate that we do not see a clear desire on the part of the government to do so. The president has tried to get both the government and the opposition to agree on a neutral date, though I think it is a completely futile attempt.
In my opinion, a large part of the population is formed to hold this gathering on June 20th. We all realize that this date is symbolic and does not create good associations for the government, but the government should put the future of Georgia higher than its personal attitudes. I am sure that the population will welcome the appearance of the government representatives very positively and this will be the expression of a government that cares about the country.
I hope that in the end, Georgians will be able to unite at this historic moment. Let us take a big step towards Europe together. Europe is our home," Tamaz Daushvili’s post reads.
