I wish to once again express condolences to the families of victims affected by the tragedy in Shovi. I share the grief of their families and friends, everyone in the country, the entire society of Georgia. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting on Monday.
Members of the Cabinet of Ministers paid a tribute with a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
“A truly devastating tragedy occurred in Shovi and took the lives of a lot of people in the country. I wish to ask you – Ministers – to pay a tribute with a minute of silence in the memory of the victims. Once again, I wish to express deep sorrow on behalf of myself and the Government of Georgia. This devastating tragedy that occurred in Shovi shattered the entire country and I wish to once again express condolences to their families. It is a tremendous pain for the entire country. Government was – as you may well be aware – engaged in the mitigation process from the very first minutes. Our heroic emergency rescuers – almost 400 of them – were deployed and 210 people were safely relocated from the site of natural disaster. I also wish to say that our heroic soldiers got engaged in the works and helped our praiseworthy, heroic emergency rescuers. We had full mobilization from our side and medical doctors were stationed on the site, along with over 100 special machines, vehicles and equipment. Mr. Karseladze [Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development] himself was managing these works and all the Ministers were of course mobilized on the spot. I once again wish to say that this is a devastating pain for all of us and I once again express condolences to the families of victims” concluded Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
