In the first nine months of 2024, Armenia faced a decline in tourist arrivals for the first time in recent years.

According to data shared by Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan during parliamentary discussions on the 2025 state budget, the total number of tourists visiting Armenia decreased by 6.9% compared to the same period last year.

Statistics from the Tourism Committee of Armenia’s Ministry of Economy show that from January to September 2024, approximately 1.72 million tourists visited Armenia, nearly 130,000 fewer than the previous year. The main reason for this decline was a significant 21.6% drop in the number of tourists from Russia, Armenia’s largest tourism market, which accounts for 43% of the total flow.

At the same time, the minister highlighted positive growth in tourist arrivals from other countries, which increased by about 8.4%. Notably, the number of visitors from Iran, India, and China rose sharply. Following Russia, the main sources of tourists are Georgia (12% of all tourists), Iran (8%), the United States (3%), and India (2%).

Hovhannisyan also pointed out a decrease in the number of labor migrants from India, potentially indicating a stabilization in migration flows.
