The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has detained two Turkish citizens on charges of selling a large quantity of counterfeit excise stamps, following a series of operational and investigative measures.
According to the agency, the investigation revealed that the defendants sold 2,000 counterfeit Georgian excise stamps for USD 1,000 with the intent of obtaining illegal financial gain. During the operation, law enforcement officers seized all the counterfeit stamps as evidence.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which prescribes a prison sentence of four to six years for the production, sale, or use of counterfeit excise stamps.
The authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the case, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
