UK sanctions Imedi TV and POSTV

სანქციები

In the sanctions package announced on 24 February 2026, both Imedi TV and PosTV have been designated under the Russia (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.

The UK government categorized these two entities specifically under Section 0.6: Entities involved in Russian disinformation.Because they have been designated as "involved persons" under the Russia regime, primary restrictions apply immediately. For example: Any accounts, property, or economic resources held by these entities in the UK must be frozen -no UK person or company is allowed to deal with these assets. UK persons are prohibited from providing trust services (such as acting as a trustee or providing a registered office) to these entities. It is a criminal offense for any UK person or business to provide funds or "economic resources" (including equipment or technology) to Imedi TV or PosTV.

According to the UK government’s statement of reasons, these entities were sanctioned because they are considered to be supporting the Government of Russia by participating in or facilitating Russian disinformation and propaganda campaigns.

While these are UK-based legal restrictions, the impact often ripples through international systems. For example: International banks with UK branches may restrict or close accounts belonging to these entities to avoid "secondary sanction" risks and/or partnerships with UK-based media organizations, satellite providers, or software companies may be terminated to comply with the prohibition on providing "economic resources."
