Georgian Railway has launched an international selection process for a consultant to supervise the design and construction of a 17.74-kilometer railway connecting the Anaklia deep-sea port to Georgia’s existing rail network. The project is estimated to cost up to $200 million, with construction planned for 2027–2029 and a contractor tender expected by the end of October.
The line will connect the Senaki–Ingiri railway section near Khamiskuri in Khobi Municipality to the port area. It will initially operate as a single track, but the railway embankment will be prepared to accommodate a second track in the future. The project also includes a new freight terminal at Anaklia, upgrades to Khobi station, a new railway junction near Khamiskuri, and supporting electrical, signaling and drainage infrastructure.
The selected consultant will review the contractor’s detailed design, supervise construction quality and deadlines, and assist Georgian Railway with contractual and financial management. The company will also oversee geotechnical assessments, soil stability and compliance with seismic standards.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has estimated the project’s cost at $200 million. Interested consulting firms must demonstrate relevant railway infrastructure and construction supervision experience. Applications are due by November 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., under World Bank procurement rules.
