Winery "Askaneli" is working on the diversification of exporting markets. The director of the company, Irakli Uglava notes that the instability of the Russian market is the reason for the special need to increase the exporting portfolio.
"We expect that the price of excise duty on alcoholic beverages on the Russian market will increase from May 1 - based on this decision and, in general, historically Russian decisions, the company is trying to diversify the market.
Our exporting markets include 27 countries, of which we added 5 countries in 2023. Among them are countries that have never been in our portfolio. Last year we went to Switzerland, Brazil, Thailand, Japan and Turkmenistan", says Irakli Uglava.
The director of "Askaneli" notes that there is demand for different products in different markets, and Japan is a particularly interesting market for the company.
"Japan is a very interesting market, mostly premium and high-quality wines are in demand. We have three partners, one of them is the owner of a large supermarket chain, which has placed our wines in more than 300 sales facilities", - says Uglava.
He explains that increasing the country's awareness is also important for selling wine on exporting markets. Irakli Uglava also points out that the Georgian niche in the foreign market is Qvevari wine, although the field has developed so much over the past two decades that it has maintained a certain quality, and the National Wine Agency is involved in the exporting process as much as possible, which is why the highest quality product leaves the country.
