Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili issues a statement regarding the 11th anniversary of the founding of the Georgian Dream party.
In the statement, Garibashvili summarizes the results of the Georgian Dream rule and notes that "with this key decision, the country was saved from complete destruction."
"Today, 11 years have passed since the establishment of Georgian Dream. On April 21, 2012, Bidzina Ivanishvili presented our political team to the public for the first time. This event became the beginning of the most important processes in Georgian political and public life.
Let's remember that this was the most difficult period in the recent history of Georgia. The anti-national, anti-state and anti-European regime has turned fear, terror, oppression and violence against its own citizens into the main weapon of politics. Not only the democratic development of the country, but also the life, dignity and freedom of each person was at risk. A regime that betrayed its own people sought to maintain power, even at the cost of destroying the country. We must admit, many did not see a way out of this situation.
It was in these conditions that Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia was created under the leadership of Bidzina Ivanishvili. This was a significant turning point in the path of our state development. From today's perspective, we are once again convinced that with this key decision, our country was saved from complete destruction. Today, in the background of the current events in the region, there is no doubt that under the conditions of the bloody, anti-national regime, Georgia would have turned into a second military training ground.
With the support of the vast majority of the population of Georgia, we peacefully changed the anti-state regime and immediately after coming to power, we began to pursue national policy, strengthen sovereignty, ensure peace and stability, and freedom of citizens. After the restoration of independence, this is the only period of continuous peace, which allows us to devote all our efforts to the development of all areas. Today we are witnessing significant progress in all areas of prosperity, social justice and democracy.
I would especially like to highlight the great progress on the path of European integration, with the association agreement, the agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the European Union, visa-free travel and, now, by the European Union giving Georgia a European perspective, the process of our joining the family of free European nations has taken an irreversible form.
All these achievements would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of every member and supporter of Georgian Dream. I thank all of them.
Summing up the past years, our motivation is the same, we must continue to pursue national policy with even more attitude, take care of everything that is the basis of our identity and strength, strengthen the country's sovereignty, ensure peace, economic revival, protect and develop our culture, faith, traditions, government and people. Moving forward with unity towards the main dream and goal of every Georgian, towards a united, free and strong Georgia," writes Garibashvili.
