The volume of cargo transported by air from Georgia is increasing. According to the Civil Aviation Agency, the volume of cargo transported by air in the first 4 months of this year amounted to 10,599 tons. Compared to the same period in 2024, cargo turnover has increased by 61%.

Postal and courier companies attribute the increased statistics to the growing cargo flow from China and the activation of e-commerce.

As company Inex Group told BMG, the number of parcels ordered from abroad in Georgia is characterized by an increasing trend this year as well. In this direction, China is still in first place.

However, according to the company's director, Giorgi Kapanadze, against the backdrop of the growing number of parcels, inadequate infrastructure in the country, in particular, the lack of terminals, as well as delays in customs procedures, remains a challenge.

"Various international platforms have entered Georgia, offering direct delivery services to customers, which has increased cargo turnover in Georgia. This is mainly the direction of China, because so far Chinese platforms are active.

Today, we have a situation where cargo turnover, the number of parcels has increased, and we do not have the appropriate infrastructure to sort parcels, carry out customs procedures and then deliver them to the customer in a timely manner. The Achilles heel of the postal and courier sector remains the increased demand for customs, and due to the shortage of customs officers, it often happens that customs service procedures for cargo are delayed, which then leads to a chain of delays. The shortage of terminals is also a challenge, because it often happens that the terminals are overcrowded and cannot accept cargo due to the fact that it is old cargo to be processed," said Giorgi Kapanadze.
