Before today’s meeting of the government Price Commission with producers, Zurab Gojashvili, founder of Tirifoni Fruit and director of the Georgian Fruit Growers Association, said that his products are exported abroad and prices in Georgia are consistent with international markets.
Gojashvili noted that the company maintains normal, healthy commercial relationships with some retail chains. However, there are a few chains with which agreements could not be reached because the conditions offered by both sides did not align.
When asked whether high margins demanded by the chains were an obstacle, Gojashvili said negotiations had not reached that stage yet.
The government’s Coordinating Commission on Food Prices, chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, started meetings on January 20. Following discussions with supermarkets and inspections by state authorities, the Commission continues to engage with distributors to address high product prices.
