GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says the government aims to introduce a new principle in the higher education reform, “one city, one faculty”, meaning that each faculty will operate at only one state university.
“We want to establish one very clear principle: one city - one faculty. A particular faculty will be created only in one state university,” Kobakhidze said during a presentation on the government’s higher education reform.
According to him, the redistribution of faculties will be based on the traditional functions and historical experience of each university.
“As part of optimizing resources and equalizing the quality of education among universities, we intend to ensure that in each city, a specific faculty exists in only one state university. In Tbilisi, for instance, each faculty will be represented in just one institution. This process will naturally involve reorganization and redistribution of faculties across universities, guided by their traditional roles and historical background. A transitional period will be provided for current students, allowing them to complete their studies and graduate from their existing universities and programs,” Kobakhidze explained.
