The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) will soon complete its investigation into the causes of recent system-wide electricity outages, GNERC Chairman Davit Narmania told BMG.

Narmania said the commission has inspected relevant facilities and collected dispatch center recordings, documents and correspondence. The materials are now undergoing detailed analysis, after which the findings will be presented at a public commission hearing.

Speaking at an Energy Workers’ Day event, Narmania also described the energy sector as the backbone of Georgia’s economy, noting that rising economic activity is increasing electricity demand. He said the sector must respond adequately to these challenges and highlighted the work of energy professionals in ensuring reliable and safe electricity supply.

Georgia experienced several major power outages during the summer of 2026. On July 24 and 25, electricity supply was interrupted for several hours in Tbilisi and parts of the regions, while another system-wide outage occurred on August 5. GNERC and the State Security Service are investigating the causes of the July outages, while GNERC member Giorgi Fangan said the August 5 incident was linked to testing aimed at identifying the causes of the earlier outages.
