GD delegation is in Turkmenistan. It includes the Prime Minister, as well as the Ministers of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Infrastructure and Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Economy, Levan Davitashvili, noted that "in Turkmenistan they will discuss energy transit opportunities with Turkmenistan.
According to him, cooperation in the field of transport will be among the issues to be considered.
"We have prospects for cooperation with Turkmenistan in several directions. We want this cooperation to deepen even more and be tangible for Georgia and to achieve greater economic results. This concerns the deepening of trade relations. Turkmenistan is a country rich in energy products, and accordingly, we will discuss the possible import or transit of energy resources to Georgia.
Also, among the issues to be discussed will be cooperation in the field of transport. Turkmenistan also has quite large mineral resources, which are exported in various directions, however, it is in our interest to interest Turkmenistan as much as possible in our transport and logistics infrastructure, - Davitashvili said.
Last year, Georgia-Turkmenistan trade turnover decreased by 19.6% to 81 million USD. Also, traditionally, the volume of foreign direct investments from Turkmenistan to Georgia is small. In 3Q24, 490.4 thousand were invested. As for tourism, last year 17,546 people arrived from Turkmenistan, which was 33.1% more than in 2023.
