The European Union public procurement market has been opened for companies registered in Georgia. This means that Georgian companies will be able to participate in tenders announced by EU member states. This is a market worth about 2 trillion EUR. Georgian companies could not participate in EU purchases until now due to legal restrictions.

At the first stage, Georgian companies will be admitted to the tenders only for the supply of goods. The next stage will be service delivery. However, this type of decision will be taken by the European Council after Georgia brings its procurement legislation closer to the EU legislation.

As the executive director of the EU-Georgia Business Council (EUGBC), Giorgi Kacharava told Business Course, this is another additional opportunity for Georgian companies, which they have a real chance to use.

"Of course, we are dealing with a very large market. The volume is about 2 trillion EUR annually and it is 14% of the total GDP. This is an opportunity for us, which we have a chance to use. We can also participate from an economic point of view, although there may be difficulties in logistics lines and the cost of transport should be high. In the future, emphasis can also be placed on industrial products. As soon as a successful result is achieved in this regard, I think it will have a good result in terms of the involvement of other companies," he said.

According to him, Georgia needs to move to the appropriate laboratory standards.
