The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has implemented special traffic regulations throughout Georgia in response to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions. Additionally, heavy machinery has been mobilized to clear central roads and highways of snow and to apply technical salt for improved traction.
The Roads Department announced the resumption of traffic movement at Rikoti Pass, which connects eastern and western Georgia. Traffic had been temporarily suspended due to an avalanche that occurred at the 141st kilometre. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Heavy vehicles are deployed to the area to clear the snow from the road.
In light of the avalanche threat and continuous snowfall, the movement of trailers and semi-trailers has been prohibited on the following routes: the Aghaiani-Zestaphoni section of the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, the Samtredia-Lanchkhuri-Grigoleti road, the Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestaphoni road, the Grigoleti-Sarphi section of the Senaki-Poti-Sarphi road, the Khasuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale road, the Sachkhere-Uzunta-Shkmeri-Zudali road, and the Jvari-Ushguli section of the Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdila road.
Four-wheel-drive vehicles and cars equipped with anti-slip tyre chains are permitted to travel on the Lentekhi-Mele, Paksadzeebi-Goderdzi, Zestaphoni-Kitskhi-Kharagauli roads.
Access is currently restricted at Paravani Pass, Nichbisi-Didgori-Didi Toneti, Ushguli-Lasdili, Nakerala Pass and Mele-Lasdili roads.
The Roads Department strongly advises against travelling toward high-risk areas unless vital and urges all drivers to adhere to traffic regulations during these hazardous conditions.
