As of 2024, Georgia mostly bought agricultural products from the follwoing countries: EU states(29%), Russia (22%), Turkey (13%), Ukraine (6%) and Brazil (5%), - according to the report published by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
As of last year, agri-food products worth 2 billion 196 million USD were imported to Georgia, which was 8.8% higher than in 2023.
The document reads, that imports increased the most from Lithuania (38.9 million USD; 3 times), Russia (33.1 million USD; 7%), the USA (24 million USD; 93%), China (21.8 million USD; 63%), Azerbaijan (21.5 million USD; 42%) and Ukraine (20 million USD; 17%).
The value of imports from Lithuania amounted to 58.6 million USD, the increase was due to cigarette imports, the value of which amounted to 44.6 million USD, which was 11 times higher than the same period last year.
Agri-food products worth 493 million USD were imported from Russia, the increase was mainly due to the import of wheat, alcohol and sunflower oil, their value increased by 19.4 million, 12.9 million and 5.4 million USD, respectively. It is worth noting that the import of wheat flour and sugar from Russia significantly decreased, by 19 million and 11.9 million USD, respectively.
The value of products imported from the USA amounted to 49.8 million USD. The increase was mainly due to the import of nuts (mainly pistachios) and poultry meat, the value of which increased by 17 million and 8.8 million USD, respectively, and amounted to 22.9 and 13.3 million USD.
The value of imports from China amounts to 56.6 million USD. The increase was mainly due to the import of poultry meat, the value of which increased by 11.3 million USD and amounted to 29.8 million USD.
The value of imports from Azerbaijan is 72.8 million USD. The increase was mainly due to the import of cigarettes, the value of which increased by 20.6 million USD and amounted to 32.2 million USD.
The value of imports from Ukraine amounted to 135 million USD, the increase is mainly due to the import of chocolate products and poultry meat, their value increased by 5.6 million USD and amounted to 17.5 million and 13.4 million USD.
