Georgia experienced a significant increase in livestock exports during the first half of 2025, with revenues reaching USD 23.05 million from the sale of 7,058 tons of live cattle, a 66.2% rise compared to the same period last year.
According to official statistics, Georgia exported live cattle to only two countries: Iraq and Azerbaijan. Iraq remained the largest market, importing 4,817 tons of cattle worth USD 15.42 million. However, the notable year-on-year growth was primarily driven by increased exports to Azerbaijan, which imported 2,241 tons of Georgian cattle valued at USD 7.63 million.
This represents a dramatic increase in exports to Azerbaijan. In the first half of 2024, Georgia exported just 105 tons of cattle to the country, worth USD 449,000.
On the import side, Georgia purchased 2,257 tons of cattle worth USD 8.61 million in January–June 2025. While the value of imports increased slightly (from USD 8.4 million in 2024), the volume decreased sharply, down to 3,809 tons. This suggests that imported livestock has become more expensive, possibly due to rising international prices or a shift to higher-quality stock.
Despite relatively small volumes, Georgia sources cattle from a diverse range of countries.
The top suppliers in 1H2025:
- Russia – USD 3.7 million, 1,355 tons
- Estonia – USD 1.2 million, 217 tons
- Latvia – USD 1.1 million, 174 tons
- Romania – USD 1 million, 187 tons
Other, smaller volumes were imported from various European and regional suppliers.
