The rehabilitation of Tbilisi’s Rustaveli Avenue will begin on July 23, with the city’s main avenue closed to vehicle traffic for four months. The project includes infrastructure upgrades, landscaping, improved pedestrian safety and the construction of new above-ground pedestrian crossings.
However, the final rehabilitation design has not yet been completed. The Tbilisi City Hall told BMG that work is still underway, while the initial phase will focus on replacing and upgrading underground utilities. Visual materials released by the municipality show a possible above-ground crossing between the Telegraph Hotel and Galleria Tbilisi, though officials said this is not the final plan and the confirmed locations will be announced later.
According to Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the project covers the area from Tamar Chovelidze Street to Freedom Square and includes the replacement of water, sewage, drainage and gas networks, relocation of overhead cables underground, installation of modern lighting, renovation of sidewalks and roads, and expansion of green spaces.
The rehabilitation project is valued at nearly GEL 20 million and has been divided into three sections. The contractor selected for all three lots is Smart Solutions LLC, which submitted a total bid of GEL 19.77 million. The company is owned by businessman Levan Gogsadze and was founded in 2015.
