In 11M2023, large companies operating in Georgia consumed 2.55 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, which was 918 million kilowatts or 26% less compared to the same period last year.
The decrease in electricity consumption by the industry has two determining factors - one is the decrease in the consumption of the metallurgical production, ferroalloys sector, and the second is the decrease in the activity of companies engaged in cryptocurrency mining.
In 11M2023, Georgian Manganese Group consumed the most electricity, totaling 808 million kilowatts, although the company's consumption in the same period last year was 1.05 billion kilowatt hours, which was a 23% drop. Bitfury, engaged in crypto mining, consumed only 0.7 million kilowatts hour this year, while consumption in 2022 exceeded 170 million kilowatt hours, the decrease amounted to 99.5%. Similarly, the consumption of crypto-mining electricity this year was 0, while the previous year it was 132 million kWh.
