Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday addressed the reception dedicated to the US Independence Day.

In his speech, the PM underscored that “Georgia stands firmly with the United States, as well as with our esteemed international partners, as we collectively defend fundamental norms and values that underpin the international community.”

Garibashvili expressed his appreciation to the US Government for its strong support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “With the unwavering support of our much-valued partners, I believe that we can bring our aspirations of peacefully united Georgia and our integration into the Euro-Atlantic community within closer reach.”

Below is his full speech:

“Throughout history, your country has proudly carried the torch of freedom and democracy, serving as a shining example for the world. The United States has persistently defended universal human rights and fundamental freedoms, supported development and progress, and promoted rule of law leaving a lasting mark on the course of history.

Georgia, a proud and freedom-loving nation, shares the same values and principles of freedom and democracy that form the foundation of our enduring friendship. During these challenging times, our close partnership and unity hold great significance in safeguarding peace and stability not just in our region, but also on a global scale.

Dear Friends, our nation’s recent history bears witness to wars waged in defense of our precious freedom. With security challenges we face today, we place great importance on the support extended by international partners in pursuit of peaceful resolutions to our territorial conflicts.

I would also like to thank the US Government for its firm support and invaluable contributions in bolstering Georgia’s defense capabilities, enhancing our institutional capacity and advancing our journey towards Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration. Since regaining independence, Georgia has been a resolute and dedicated partner of the United States in the region. Georgian troops have stood shoulder to shoulder with US soldiers, jointly safeguarding global security and upholding the international order in various parts of the world.

On behalf of the Georgian people and my government, let me express sincere appreciation to the US Government for its robust support in building democratic institutions and strengthening Georgia’s economy. I believe the US and Georgia have an untapped potential in trade and commerce. We look forward to unlocking new possibilities to our businesses, supporting the US capital inflows and movement of American goods into our country and vice versa. I am confident that the direct flight between our countries undeniably will play its important role in achieving the aforementioned goals and will bring our nations even closer.

I must outline that the US has made major contributions to improving different sectors in Georgia, including, but not limited to, healthcare and education. We very much appreciate educational and professional programs offered to our citizens. By supporting people-to-people cooperation, we recognize the significance of fostering strong and enduring partnerships between our countries.

Dear Friends, as we all know, Ambassador Degnan’s tenure in Georgia is almost completed and I would like to seize this moment and thank Madam Ambassador for her diligent and tireless efforts in promoting and enhancing bilateral partnership between our nations. I would like to wish you – Madam Ambassador – all the best and success in your future endeavors. Please be assured that you are always welcome in Georgia!”
