On Monday, May 27, during a meeting of the Yerevan City Council, it was announced that financial resources have been allocated for the acquisition of 171 buses, which will be delivered to Yerevan within the scheduled time frame.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan also discussed the process of purchasing 18-meter buses.
"Yerevan continues to modernize its bus and trolleybus fleet using its own funds. As much as it pains me to say this, I do not see a way to organize the purchase of 18-meter buses with our international partners or the government in a short time frame. Therefore, I propose to plan for the phased procurement of 18-meter buses starting next year, financed by Yerevan's budget," he stated.
The mayor instructed to begin the preparation of technical specifications for future procurements.
"As I understand, we are not making progress in the acquisition of buses, and the 18-meter buses will also have to be purchased using the Yerevan city budget," Avinyan added.
He emphasized that public transport reforms must be completed, for which an additional 250 18-meter buses are needed.
"We will not deviate from this path under any circumstances. Whatever happens, we must organize the work, even if it is gradual and comes with some difficulties, we must accomplish it," the mayor said, adding that the issue is a priority for Yerevan.
