Holidays have been imposed at public institutions in the period of January 1-10, 2022. This decision was made by the Inter-Agency Coordination Council to reduce the mobility of people. Similar recommendations have been issued by the Council to the private sector.

Meeting led by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia was held yesterday at the Government Administration. It was also noted that holidays are set for schools as well from December 29 to January 17, 2022.

In addition, the Council discussed the current epidemic stance in the country. As commonly known, a new strain of the novel coronavirus - Omnicron - was detected in Georgia on December 20, 2021. Detailed information about it was shared to the Council Members by Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Centre of Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC). New circumstances caused by the viral spread of Omicron have been taken into consideration by the Council which did not deem it justified to further ease any restrictions and nightclubs will not be permitted to resume operation either.

Inter-Agency Coordination Council urges citizens to wear facemasks, practice social distancing and get actively engaged in the process of vaccination to make sure that no need arises for the nation-wide introduction of tight restrictive measures.

Under the instructions of the Prime Minister of Georgia, current regulations will be strictly enforced by relevant institutions.

Since the first detection, 916 477 lab-proven cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Georgia, out of which 869 411 individuals recovered and 13 221 - passed away.

At present, 35 individuals are placed in quarantine, 1 001 citizens of Georgia - at clinical hotels, while 5 488 - at healthcare facilities under medical supervision.

The Inter-Agency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia actively engages the Parliament and Administration of the President of Georgia.
