Geostat has published a report on the turnover of the gambling business in 2022. According to the document, despite the worst pandemic situation last year, the turnover of the sector increased by 24% and reached a record 32 billion GEL. It is likely that the increase would only be in the direction of online casinos and online bookmakers, as due to pandemic-related restrictions, casinos operated with a limit.
According to Geostat, the turnover of gambling is the sum of all bets placed on each game by each player. Accordingly, last year Georgian gambling business received bets of 32 billion GEL. As for the added value tax created by gambling, the figure amounted to GEL 861 million in 2020, which was down by GEL 40 million compared to the previous year, which was probably due to the restriction of activities in physical casinos.
Due to the ban on physical casinos, the employment rate in the sector was decreased in 2020. In particular, in 2019, gambling employed 10,816 people, and in 2020, the number of employees decreased to 9,864. The average salary also decreased. In 2019, the average salaries in the sector was down by GEL 467 and amounted to GEL 1,599.
