FDI in Azerbaijan Increased by 23.5% in H1 2020

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the economy of Azerbaijan in the first half of 2020 amounted to US$ 2.1 billion.
 
In January-June 2019, foreign direct investment in the Azerbaijani economy amounted to US$ 1.7 billion. Thus, in the first half of the current year, FDI increased by 23.5%.
 
In the first quarter of the current year, FDI in the Azerbaijani economy amounted to US$ 1.2 billion and US$ 0.9 billion in the second quarter, Central Bank of Azerbaijan reports.
 
84.4% of investments, during the reporting period was invested in the oil and gas sector, the share of the mentioned sector was 86.2% during the same period of the prior year. 
 
In the non-oil sector, the volume of foreign direct investment for 6 months of 2020 amounted to US$ 328.6 million (an increase of 38.4%), the share was 15.6%.

According to the CBA, in January-June 2020, Azerbaijani companies made direct investments abroad in the amount of US$ 519 million (declined 2.4 times), including in the oil and gas sector - US$ 282.9 million (declined 2.7 times) to other sectors - US$ 236.1 million (2 times decline).
 
FDI in Azerbaijan's economy in 2019 amounted to $ 4.3 billion and increased by 4.9%.
