The National Forestry Agency of Georgia reported that its regional services uncovered 877 violations in 2025, including 773 cases of illegal logging and timber transport. These incidents also involved unregistered sawmills, with illegally stored timber in so-called “business yards” totaling 1,706 cubic meters.
In addition, 101 cases of unauthorized occupation of state forest lands and three other administrative violations were recorded. The agency emphasized that preventing and detecting illegal use of natural resources, as well as ensuring effective state control, remain top priorities.
Among the violations, 31 cases contained signs of criminal offenses. Monitoring combines patrols and modern technology to ensure compliance.
Kakha Tsertsvadze, head of the National Forestry Agency, stated that legislation on illegal logging and transport has been strengthened this year, and the agency will continue its active enforcement efforts.
