The Customs Service and Control Department of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia recently conducted a customs inspection of a passenger vehicle arriving from Iran at the Agarak customs checkpoint.
According to the press service of the SRC of Armenia, the customs inspection, including an X-ray scan of a Pejo vehicle registered in Iran, raised suspicions of a hidden compartment. The driver's behavior also seemed suspicious to customs officials, the statement said.
During a further in-depth inspection, conducted jointly with the SRC Anti-Smuggling Department, masses resembling marijuana weighing over 12.1 kg and approximately 4.42 grams of a substance resembling cocaine were discovered in the vehicle's seatback.
The materials related to this case have been transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia. As part of the criminal proceedings initiated under Article 399 of the RA Criminal Code, an Iranian citizen, A. A., has been arrested.
