Airlines of Kazakhstan and Armenia have been granted the right to operate mutual flights without restrictions. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The announcement states that during the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Armenia, aimed at developing transportation cooperation between the two countries, a Protocol on Amendments and Additions to the Intergovernmental Agreement on International Road Transport of November 6, 2006, and a Memorandum of Understanding between the aviation authorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Armenia were signed.
"In accordance with the signed memorandum, airlines of the two countries have been granted the right to operate flights to authorized points in Armenia and Kazakhstan (Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktau, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Taraz, Petropavlovsk, Semey, Turkestan, Aktobe) using 3rd, 4th, and 5th freedom of the air without restrictions on frequency, capacity, and types of aircraft.
In addition, the Kazakh side has granted permission to "Armenian Airlines" LLC to operate regular flights on the route Yerevan - Ashgabat - Astana with commercial rights until the end of 2027," the announcement says.
The package of amendments to the Intergovernmental Agreement provides for the creation of a permitting system for the carriage of goods by road to/from third countries, as well as the exemption of Kazakh carriers from road and environmental charges for bilateral and transit cargo transportation (on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, an environmental fee of approximately $100 per vehicle is levied).
In 2023, the import-export transportation by road between Kazakhstan and Armenia amounted to 6,936 tons, which is 21% higher than the 2022 figure (5,748 tons). The main transported goods are ready-to-eat food products, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, machinery, mechanisms, and equipment.
Earlier, BMG reported that on April 15, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during an official visit to Yerevan, stated that Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports to Armenia to $350 million.
In 2023, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan increased by 2.4 times, reaching $100.5 million. During this period, exports grew by 3.8 times, reaching $71.3 million, while imports increased by 23.6%, totaling $29.2 million.
Recently, Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu announced plans to establish an Armenian-Kazakhstani Business Council as part of further development of trade and economic programs between the two countries.
