The authorities of Armenia and Kazakhstan are ready to promote the realization of the existing trade and economic potential by providing maximum support for increasing trade turnover. This is stated in a joint statement adopted following the negotiations between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Yerevan on April 15.
According to the adopted statement, the parties have also agreed to promote deeper cooperation in the fuel and energy, transportation, and communication sectors. Yerevan and Astana intend to strengthen cooperation in innovation and technology, agriculture, mining and metallurgy, processing industries, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.
"All necessary measures will be taken to implement the roadmap for trade and economic cooperation between the government of the Republic of Armenia and the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the years 2024-2025," the statement says.
Armenia and Kazakhstan also intend to expand cooperation between their respective regions, promote the development of interregional cooperation in trade and industry, and cultural and humanitarian spheres, stimulate "horizontal" direct connections between economic entities and other actors.
The parties also consider it important to explore opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation and information exchange in the field of high technologies, information security, and digitalization, including the creation, regulation, and application of artificial intelligence.
Earlier, BMG reported that in 2023, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan increased by 2.4 times, reaching $100.5 million. During this period, exports grew by 3.8 times, reaching $71.3 million, while imports increased by 23.6%, totaling $29.2 million.
Recently, Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu announced plans to establish an Armenian-Kazakhstani Business Council as part of further development of trade and economic programs between the two countries.
