President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed support for partnership with Armenia, calling it an important and reliable partner in the South Caucasus. This statement was made after his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan on April 15th.
"We highly value Armenia's ancient history, rich culture, and traditions," said President Tokayev. "Our relations are based on unbreakable friendship and mutual assistance. Activating bilateral relations is our common goal."
The President emphasized that discussions with the Armenian Prime Minister on many current agenda items led to specific agreements.
"We discussed expanding cooperation in trade, economic, and investment spheres," Tokayev said. "Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports to Armenia to $350 million. We need to take concrete steps to expand the list of export and import goods. It is essential to make the most efficient use of existing opportunities," he said.
He also stressed the importance of enhancing ties in industry, finance, innovation, tourism, agriculture, and other sectors.
"I proposed implementing several joint investment projects," he noted, adding that this is particularly relevant in the current complex geopolitical situation.
Earlier, BMG reported that in 2023, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan increased by 2.4 times, reaching $100.5 million. During this period, exports grew by 3.8 times, reaching $71.3 million, while imports increased by 23.6%, totaling $29.2 million.
Recently, Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu announced plans to establish an Armenian-Kazakhstani Business Council as part of further development of trade and economic programs between the two countries.
