On October 17, the Armenian government made a decision to develop the transport infrastructure for the new Academic Campus in Yerevan. The Italian company "Systematica," which has prior experience working on the master plan for the project, was selected to create the transportation master plan.
According to the decision, "Systematica" will provide consulting services on transportation and mobility issues for the design and development of the campus's infrastructure. A key feature of the project is the creation of a mobility system that minimizes the use of private vehicles.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the importance of transport connectivity and mobility for the success of such projects. She also stated that the implementation of the program would take approximately eight months.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that vehicle traffic within the campus will be significantly restricted. Entry for vehicles will be allowed only for cargo deliveries according to a designated schedule.
Additionally, Pashinyan shared plans for expanding the metro system. In the future, the metro line is expected to extend from the "Ajapnyak" station to the new "University Campus" station, and later connect to the "Charbakh" station. This would create a circular metro line in Yerevan, greatly improving the city’s transport accessibility.
Earlier, BMG reported that on August 22, the Armenian government finalized the decision on the location for the new University Campus in Yerevan. The project will host around 44,000 professors, scientists, and students from Armenia and abroad, along with 8 state and 8 international/private universities, on a 580-hectare campus that will incorporate modern "green" technologies.
