An interesting trend has emerged in the banking sector of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU): despite having a smaller total deposit volume, Armenia shows impressive figures in per capita deposits, surpassing even a large economy like Kazakhstan.
According to data published by nur.rz, by the end of 2023, the total amount of bank deposits in EAEU countries reached an impressive $658 billion, reflecting a 4.5% increase compared to the end of the previous year.
The distribution of deposits among EAEU member states shows Russia, the largest economy of the union, leading with $598.6 billion. Kazakhstan follows with $41.5 billion, then Belarus with $9.3 billion. Armenia ranks fourth with $6.4 billion, while Kyrgyzstan closes the list with $1.8 billion.
However, the most interesting picture emerges when analyzing per capita deposit figures. Here, Armenia secures an impressive second place with $2,150 per capita. This is significantly higher than Kazakhstan’s figure, which, despite having a larger total deposit volume, stands at $2,000 per person.
Russia maintains its lead in this metric as well, with $4,100 per capita. Belarus ranks fourth with $1,000 per capita, and Kyrgyzstan rounds out the list with $261.3 per person.
