Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan announced an agreement between the finance ministries of Russia and Armenia to reduce Armenia's national debt as compensation for paid but undelivered arms.
Experts estimate the value of the unfulfilled contracts to range between $250 million and $400 million.
While the Defense Minister did not provide details on the current stage of implementing the agreements, he confirmed their validity and noted that several successfully executed military-technical agreements between the two countries remain in effect. However, he refrained from commenting on the possibility of signing new defense contracts.
Papikyan emphasized Armenia's interest in maintaining strong relations with Russia but remarked that the "depth and nature" of these relations in the future would depend on responses to several critical questions. He also stressed that Armenia remains a member of the CSTO and has not annulled any agreements with Russia.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously confirmed ongoing negotiations regarding the partial write-off of national debt as compensation for the undelivered arms.
