The "Crossroad of the World" project proposed by the Armenian authorities could serve as a solid foundation for cooperation between Yerevan and Beijing, stated Chinese Ambassador Fan Yong, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
Representatives of China have previously expressed significant interest in the Armenian government's project. On June 3, the first truck from Shanghai arrived in Armenia as part of this initiative.
"We are currently closely monitoring all the news, especially those related to the 'Crossroad of the World' project. It is possible that in the future we will develop cooperation specifically in this context. I hope this will become a very good basis for bilateral relations... We support this project," the diplomat noted.
He recalled that in March of this year, a meeting took place in Brussels between the Armenian Prime Minister and the Vice Premier of China, during which the "Crossroad of the World" project was one of the topics discussed.
When asked by a journalist how the Armenian "Crossroad of Peace" initiative could be aligned with China's "One Belt, One Road" project, the ambassador found it difficult to provide a specific answer.
He explained that it is currently challenging to say anything concrete on this matter as all related issues need further discussion and negotiation. However, if the two sides manage to align their projects, Armenia and China will have numerous points of convergence in the future.
Earlier, BMG reported that in late October 2023, Armenia presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project, which essentially is the Armenian version of a project aimed at unlocking communications in the region after the 44-day war. From Yerevan's point of view, this is one of the components of the process of establishing a durable peace in the South Caucasus, and if implemented, it could change Armenia's status, helping it to emerge from isolation and become a logistical hub in the region.
