Official statistics show that meat prices in Georgia continued to rise in March, with notable increases across most categories. According to Geostat’s consumer price index, the “meat and meat products” group became 9.6% more expensive year-on-year in March.

Beef recorded the sharpest growth trend. Its price rose by 13.5% in January, 15.3% in February, and 16.7% in March compared to the same months last year. On a monthly basis, beef prices also increased by 1.4% in March compared to February.

Pork prices showed a more moderate but still upward trend, increasing by 11% in January, 10.1% in February, and 9.4% in March year-on-year, although they declined slightly by 0.8% compared to the previous month. Chicken prices also rose annually but showed signs of slowing, increasing by 10.6% in January, 9.4% in February, and 6.6% in March, despite a 2% monthly rise.

Other meat-related products also became more expensive, including minced beef (+14.5% year-on-year) and smoked meat (+6%). At the same time, egg price inflation slowed significantly, reaching just 2.1% in March after double-digit growth earlier in the year, following a partial price reduction by major poultry producers.

Separate research from Galt & Taggart shows that meat consumption in Georgia has increased significantly in recent years, rising from 37 kg per capita in 2016 to 51 kg in 2024. However, self-sufficiency has declined over the same period, falling from 46% to 39%, indicating growing dependence on imports.
