Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, stated that the EU welcomes Yerevan's efforts in combating the circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions.

This statement was made prior to a trilateral meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Brussels on April 5.

According to her, Brussels particularly appreciates Yerevan's efforts to prevent the supply of military equipment and technologies to Russia.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in an interview with France 24 that although Armenia has not joined the anti-Russian sanctions, it complies with them to maintain relations with countries that have imposed these restrictions.

Earlier, BMG reported that cards of the Russian payment system "Mir" stopped working at ATMs and POS terminals of most banks in Armenia since March 30, 2024, with the exception of VTB Bank Armenia. This is due to the fact that the operator of "Mir" cards fell under US sanctions in February of this year.

The Central Bank of Armenia has stated that commercial banks in the country have the right to independently decide on cooperation with various payment systems according to their risk management strategy, including sanctions.
