Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced that the planned tram line from Didube Metro to Didi Digomi will run along Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue, and that public buses will also share the central section of the boulevard. The initiative aims to ease traffic and improve commuter access to Didi Digomi.

Kaladze explained that the project will create dedicated lanes for buses and minibuses alongside the tram tracks, helping to reduce congestion on one of Tbilisi’s busiest streets. “The tram will facilitate movement and make access to Didi Digomi much easier. Alongside the tram, other public transport vehicles will also operate, which will significantly reduce traffic load on the avenue,” he said.

Construction of the tram line will follow the Design-Build (DB) method, covering both project documentation and physical construction. The 416-million GEL project was recently extended by two months, with tender submissions now open until February 16, 2026.

The tram line will connect the 3rd and 4th micro-districts of Didi Digomi with Didube Metro, featuring 11 stops and a minimum capacity of 300 passengers per tram. The contract allows 36 months for completion, including 24 months dedicated to construction work.
