Economic Growth Forecast For 2024 Is Expected To Increase - Finance Minister

Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili on Monday highlighted that the IMF once again confirmed the sustainability of macro-economic and fiscal policy of Georgia, while summarising the two-week visit of an International Monetary Fund mission in the country.

The Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, Subir Lall, the Deputy Director at the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the IMF and the Acting President of the National Bank, Natia Turnava, held a media briefing at the National Bank.

As the Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili noted, the IMF, based on the current analysis, once again confirmed the sustainability of the macroeconomic and fiscal policy of Georgia, and also evaluated the steps taken by the Georgian economic team at a high level.

"According to preliminary data, economic growth made up 7.5% last year, while the growth rate was predicted at 5.2% in the current year. However, we stated that the indicator might be adjusted depending on the economic trends. So, it is expected that our forecasts will also change in the direction of growth. It is crucial that the economic growth forecast by the IMF has changed in the direction of growth, which is expected within 5.7%", said the Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission led by Mr. Matthew Gaertner conducted discussions for the 2024 Article IV consultation with Georgia during March 6-18 in Tbilisi.
