“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has acknowledged the successful economic policy pursued by Georgia in recent years and the results it has yielded,” said Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili following a meeting with Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.
According to the Minister, the talks centred on issues of cooperation between the IMF and Georgia, covering both ongoing and future projects.
“The International Monetary Fund is actively engaged in supporting the implementation of economic reforms across a wide range of areas. Among the most significant is the reform of state-owned enterprises, on which Georgia and the IMF have fully aligned positions across every aspect of the reform agenda. We also discussed the challenges arising from the current geopolitical situation, both for the region and for Georgia specifically. It was noted unequivocally that the buffers and economic parameters Georgia possesses place the country in a uniquely advantageous position: it is entirely capable of hedging against all the risks that may emerge from the prevailing geopolitical climate and that could potentially affect economic development, both regionally and globally,” the Finance Minister stated.
He added that the IMF remains a firm supporter of Georgia’s reform agenda and that active cooperation between the two parties will continue.
