“For now, the danger of the fire spreading to populated areas in Borjomi Municipality has been removed,” the Emergency Management Agency reported on Monday.
The border police helicopters resumed extinguishing work earlier this morning, with fire and rescue vehicles mobilized on the spot.
“The fire extinguishing work has been underway nightlong. 300 firefighters and 300 employees of the Special Tasks Department are involved in extinguishing the fire, as of now,” said the agency.
An operational management headquarters has been created on-site headed by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Ioseb Chelidze, and the Head of the Emergency Situations Management Agency, Temur Mghebrishvili.
The fire broke out on August 19 near Kvabishkevi village in Borjomi Municipality.
