Georgia has approved three sports infrastructure projects under a state program that offers public land through a symbolic GEL 1 lease arrangement. The projects have received a combined 90,074 square meters of state-owned land under 20-year development rights agreements aimed at expanding sports facilities across the country.
According to the National Agency of State Property, 108 applications had been submitted to the program as of May 15. Only three applications, all approved last year, met the program’s requirements, while 87 were rejected and 18 remain under review. The approved projects involve minimum combined investments of more than GEL 6.6 million.
The beneficiaries include Athletic Sports Club, which received a 26-hectare land plot in Tbilisi with a planned GEL 2.6 million investment; Sport Academy 2025, which obtained an 11,650-square-meter site near Mziuri Park and committed to investing at least GEL 2 million; and Iberia 1999 Sports Club, which was granted 52,093 square meters of land and existing buildings in Digomi with a minimum GEL 2 million investment obligation.
The Sports Infrastructure Development Support Program was launched in June 2025 at the initiative of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. Under the scheme, investors receive state property through a 20-year development right, paying a symbolic GEL 1 fee during the first 10 years, after which annual market-based lease rates apply. The program is jointly administered by the Economy Ministry and the Ministry of Sport.
